If you’re feeling stuck on what to host, we came up with 10 ideas for events you can host on Lex.

Host a queer potluck at a local park

Love sharing food with new people? As the weather warms up, picnics in parks are calling your name. Why not make a picnic a potluck? Snacks won’t be lacking, and you can set a theme depending on how into cooking you are. You could have a cookbook party, where everyone selects a recipe from the same cookbook. Or you could pick a color as the theme and enjoy an abundance of orange foods together. Whatever your idea is, having a potluck is a low stress, fun way to meet new friends. Everyone will be relieved to know that they have something to contribute, something easy to talk about, and something to nibble on while they mix and mingle with their new queer pals.

Set up the event on Lex and have attendees RSVP and DM you what they’ll be bringing to the party.

Play sports with your friendly neighborhood queer jocks

Queer jocks are out there, and they’re dying for your invite to play catch in the park. Why not organize an event for it? Whether or not you’re in a sports-related group chat, you can arrange a meetup to get your blood pumping and have some fun outside with some new queer friends. Host a soccer, climbing, biking, kickball, or running meetup - whatever your favorite sport is, find some other folks who love it too! Just pick a local park or meetup location, like a climbing gym, and add it to your event on Lex. If you’re passionate to a fault about your pickle ball game, there are queers in your area who would be lucky to play alongside you.

Get competitive at a gay game night

Board game cafes are popping up all over the place, and they’re a super fun way to hang out with someone new. Why not organize an event? Pick a date and time and get some new queer friends together to play games both familiar and new, simple and complicated. Whether or not you’re a seasoned roleplaying expert or a classically trained Scrabble expert, there will be something for everyone. If you don’t have a board game cafe in your area, get creative! See what games people can bring to the (literal) table, and meet up at a cafe during off-peak hours. Get cozy & get competitive.

Make something stunning at an arts & crafts meetup

.. or you could make something very ugly. Either way, have fun making new friends by organizing an arts & crafts event! Depending on the weather, you could host it at a park or at a local coffee shop. Set a theme, like fiber arts, or keep it open-ended. Host a BYOC (bring your own crafts) party and encourage everyone to bring a project they’ve been working on. Connect over your love of crafting, the challenge of learning something new, and more with your new queer friends. Post the event and see those RSVP numbers climb!

Discuss queer lit with fellow bookworms in a book club

The perfect queer book club might seem elusive, but with the help of Lex, it’s within your reach. Pick a book and a date and make an event, meet up at a cafe or online, and watch the new friendships form! Read a fave queer romance or tackle Stone Butch Blues together. You’ll have something to discuss and bond over, and the conversation will flow easily. If you want to meet online, just set the event location as ‘online’ and attach the zoom link as the ‘ticket’ link. Easy!

Support your local queens (or kings) and check out a drag show

Have a performance you’re dying to catch but don’t want to go alone? Create an event to get friends together and go see some drag together. Supporting local performers is the best, and it’s a fun, easy way to connect with new LGBTQ+ friends who also love going out and watching some good gay drag. Even if you aren’t hosting the event, you can provide the info other attendees need by linking the ticketing site in the Lex event. Don’t forget to bring cash!

(Check out one of our city guides if you need some bar recommendations.)

Catch some live music

Use Lex events to meet up before or at your fave musician’s concert when they’re in town! Set up a group chat for easy communication (primarily to discuss what you’re going to wear, of course) and make an event to share the deets quickly. If you all have GA tickets, you can dance the night away together. If you’re seated separately, you can meet up before hand to wait in line with new pals or get some food after the show together to share videos and discuss how glorious the show was. Either way, you’ll have something in common built in, and banter will be easy after such a fun night out.

Co-working Meetup

Working from home alone can be boring (and super distracting). If you don’t want to do the whole co-working space thing, why not make an Event on Lex to get some folks together for co-working? Use it to work on art, life admin, or your computer job. Body doubling can be super helpful if you struggle with focusing at home, and parallel play with new people can be a low-pressure way to get to know someone new. Make an event, pick a local cafe (make sure it has good wifi, coffee, and snacks on the menu!) and get some productive queers together.

Stop and smell the roses at the botanical gardens

If the weather’s nice, make a date to visit your local botanical gardens! Post on Lex to see who’s interested, then make an event with the date, time, and location. You can link the garden’s ticketing site to the event to make it super easy for people to get their tickets. Fellow flower-lovers are out there for you to connect with - make the first move and be the icon who brings everyone together! Bond over the stunning blooms, gardening tips, and inspo for your future queer commune gardens. Sounds like a perfect day to me!

Sip (and spill) some tea together

Plan a cozy & classy day at a local tea shop together and get sipping. Organize an event on Lex to gather some new pals together to try some pots of earl grey and little finger sandwiches. Make it silly and tell everyone to bring a piece of gossip to the table. Your queer tea shop takeover will be the highlight of everyone’s week.
