How to have the best Pride month | LGBTQ+ Events

Picture this: Pride has arrived, but you don't have any hot queer events on the calendar yet. Friend, don't worry. We've got your back. Here's our guide to having an extremely gay Pride season!

1. Put your local Pride Parade or Dyke March on the calendar

First things first, usually where you live has a big Pride event and if you're comfortable in big crowds, this is always a great anchor for your pride plans. Remember, the first Pride was a protest, and we still have every reason to be protesting today for our right to exist freely and proudly. Put on something gay and bask in the incredible energy that comes from being surrounded by other LGBTQ+ folks of all ages. Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes, and come ready to dance and chat with new friends or old. If folks in your area are boycotting a big Pride parade, we've got tips for finding alternative events.

2. Download Lex to find local Pride parties and events

This might sound like an ad, and yes, a Lex employee is writing this article, but we're serious - in the locations where we've got a good number of users, Lex is the most direct way to tap into your local queer community to find events and parties of all kinds.

Here are our tips for making the most of Lex to find Pride plans this June:

  • Filter your feed with the #PridePlans tag to see what folks are getting up to (or what events they're avoiding!).
  • Tap the #Events tag to scroll through local events, and RSVP to the ones that interest you. You'll get a push notification to remind you before the event starts!
  • Use our Lexplore feature to check out what's going on in other locations - maybe you can take the bus up to NYC for the big parade and hit a party or two while you're there!
  • POST! Tell your local queers what you're looking for, make an event, start a group chat. Pride is an amazing time to put yourself out there and make new LGBTQ+ friends in your area

3. Check out your local queer bar's event calendar

No better place to sip a beer or mocktail during Pride than your local queer bar. Not sure where to go? Lucky for you, we've put together a ton of guides on hot queer spots in different cities. Grab a friend (or post on Lex asking someone to come meet you) and go have a drink, flirt, make friends, dance - whatever feels good for you. Most LGBTQ+ nightlife spots will have events calendars packed during Pride month, so it will be easy to find the gay karaoke (queeraoke?) night of your dreams.

4. Attend queer meetups with your Lex group chat

Lex is full of little gay clubs that are absolutely hosting meetups during Pride month. Potluck picnics, sketching meetups, queer walks and hikes, pickleball games, virtual events. You name it, Lex groups are hosting it. If you aren't in any groups yet, check out the Explore page for groups and find ones that excite you. If you don't find any, make your own! Your people are out there, and they're literally dying for you to organize a picnic. I mean it.

5. Stay true to yourself during Pride

A lot of people push themselves to the limit during Pride drinking, going out, and packing their calendar with events. If that's your style, go for it, babe. You might not be surprised to learn that this author is an introvert, though, and a more lowkey Pride is just as valid. Whatever your style, Pride is all about celebrating your truth! If that means masking up at every event, making sober plans with friends, or hooking up with someone new every weekend, you're doing it right!
